Sunday Joint: State Of Satta & Guests

Sunday 14 November 2021

Sunday Joint // State Of Satta, Tom Spirals & DJ NikNak

State of Satta are a 7 piece dub-fusion band based in Leeds. Brought together by a collective love of dub and reggae, the band fuse the rhythms of one-drop and steppas with jazz inspired melodies to create a distinct groove driven sound. If hard hitting, trouser flapping bass lines and monumental anthems are your thing, State of Satta is the band for you.

Founded through the ashes of 2020, State of Satta released their first live single and video session ‘Bring Out The Fiya’ in the spring of 2021. Garnering 15,000 views on Facebook quickly, the band have retained this momentum by playing across the UK over Summer 2021. While still being a young band, State Of Statta members are all well known musicians on the Leeds jazz/global beats scene. They love all things reggae and dub, from original legends like Lee “Scratch” Perry and Bob Marley to nuschool acts like Gentleman’s Dub Club and Fat Freddy’s Drop. A night of heavy skanking guaranteed!

State Of Satta are : Yotam Sigwalt – vocals/guitar, Emyr Penry Dance – trumpet, Aidan Ruffle – trombone, Robin Forkin – keyboards, Billy Burls – percussion, Luke Bryan – bass, Ben Burnside – drums

Support act Tom Spirals is from Glasgow and studied his craft on the mic alongside champion sound and fellow Glaswegians Mungo’s HiFi. He is the resident MC at the infamous Walk n’ Skank sessions in Glasgow and his energetic performances have taken him right round the globe and back again, from the UK to Australia, South America to Europe. With a whole heap of high grade music behind him with big plans ahead, there’s no stopping the original chatterbox.

Special guest DJ on this night is Leeds selector NikNak who will be spinning a bass music set covering dub, reggae, dubstep and d&b. She has a monthly show “Melanin” on Worldwide FM and has played tons of festivals over the last few years including Wilderness Festival, We Out Here Festival, Leeds International Festival, Brighton Fringe Festival, Leeds Digital Festival and Marsden Jazz Festival.
