Sunday Joint: Readymeal Sound Takeover
Sunday 28 November 2021
Leeds-based collective and label Readymeal Sound are building a burgeoning reputation as one of Leeds’ most exciting hip hop x jazz collectives. Over the years they’ve developed a roster and sound that’s taken them far beyond their Leeds base. The collective became synonymous with their intimate jams at East Village Bar, and they’ve since gone on to host packed and sold out nights at some of Leeds’ best known venues including Hyde Park Book Club, Old Red Bus Station and Eiger Studios.
Readymeal’s tireless work-ethic – coupled with their artists Izzi De Rosa (Atlantic Records), Laika, Pixie Cola (Hospital Records), Yusuf Yellow and Jxnior regularly releasing music and content on their platform – reminds their supporters just how talented a collective they are.
The founders of the collective Ben Nimmo, Alfie Aukett and Tom Royston also have some seriously impressive side projects individually. Alfie runs Next Door Records in Shepherds Bush, whilst Ben regularly plays and produces solo material under the alias BNMO, Tom is a freelance artist whose work centres around mental health.
Tonight, Hifi Club give Readymeal Sound the chance to do their first ever takeover of Sunday Joint. They’re hosting the whole night – from DJs to live bands to guest MCs and vocalists. Expect a supertight house band backing up a stage full of RMS stars including r’n’b queen Pixie Cola alongside lethal MCs laika and Jxnior.
It will be a joyful explosion of hip-hop, r’n’b, jazz and soul from one of the city’s most exciting young music collectives. Not to be missed.Time8PM
