SUNDAY JOINT: DUBBUL O, BERRY BLACC & JOINTHEDOTS

Sunday 8 May 2022

SUNDAY JOINT HIP-HOP SPECIAL WITH DUBBUL O, BERRY BLACC & JOINTHEDOTS + SUPPORT FROM OSCAR HORNER TRIO & GUEST MCs.

Jointhedots is a live hip hop band launched by Defty, producer and bassist for Tungusku, and founding member of top UK/Manchester hip hop collective/band The Mouse Outfit. Defty co-managed the hip hop supergroup until 2020, working as a bassist on the live shows, producer on some of their most prominent tracks and videographer – filming and editing 30 music videos for the band. In early 2020 Defty parted ways with The Mouse Outfit to launch a new band working with several former Mouse Outfit band members and collaborators, including Liviu Gheorge (keys – Matt Halsall), Aaron Wood (trumpet – Secret Night Gang) and MC Dubbul O (vocals), who all appear on both Jointhedots singles to date, “What Ya Missin” and “Stay Shippin”. Two great contemporary UK hip hop joints that musically hark back to the 1990s golden era of “boom bap” hip hop – fat beats, dope rhymes, smooth flow.

To any fans of the UK hip hop scene, Dubbul O should be a household name. His internationally acclaimed releases with The Mouse Outfit and his work as part of Manchester hip hop crews Voodoo Black and Mothership Connection have brought attention to his consistent solo output. The Manchester MC has been a staple part of the rap circuit for the past decade and thanks to his involvement with a number of crews and side-projects, has toured extensively across the UK and Europe. Tonight he graces the stage alongside friend and fellow MC Berry Blacc, himself a well established artist in the Manchester and UK music scenes via collaborations with The Mouse Outfit and Werkha as well as a string of solo releases. The music is inspired by a variety of genres but in particular the jazz influenced hip hop of the 1990s, the beats of producers such as Knxwledge, Stro Elliot, J Dilla, Flying Lotus and the pioneering sound of modern British jazz acts such as Alfa Mist, Robohands and Yussef Kamaal. With some heavy musicians in Jointhedots and these two class MCs, this will be a great night of quality live hip hop and as good as it gets anywhere in the world.

Support comes from our Sunday Joint house band led by ace drummer Oscar Horner. If you’ve caught them over the last few months plus Oscar’s own band recently supporting Plantfood at Sunday Joint, you know they are absolute hip hop/jazz fire. Tonight, Oscar will be featuring some guest MCs from Leeds’ buzzing underground hip hop scene.

DJs as always are the Sunday Joint residents. Don Lubi (DJ Lubi) early doors hosting the night and playing the jazz, soulful sounds and hip hop beats around live band sets. Then after the bands, young gun DJ Mxtias (Bazuka) brings you his “Moma Cat Disco” with banging tropical bass and global beats until late. Doors 8pm. Support band 8.45pm. Headline band 10pm. Late night DJ session from 11pm. Entry is FREE.
