Sunday Joint & DJ Lubi Present TC & The Groove Family & APLTN

Sunday 10 May 2020

It’s great to have TC and The Groove Family back at Sunday Joint after last autumn’s firing live show at The Hifi Club. Led by Necktr drummer Tim Cook and featuring musicians from some of the best bands in the city’s underground music scene (Necktr, Project Hilts, Long Legged Creatures, Sueli Gil & Friends, Fall Quintet), the 11 piece make a joyful sound that takes in music from across the globe and unites it into one glorious TC dancefloor fusion. Just 2 years old, they quickly played high profile Leeds support shows for the likes of Yussef Dayes, KOG & The Zongo Brigade and Cykada before reaching headliner status. They are now playing regularly across the UK in cities like Sheffield, Manchester, Bristol and doing high profile gigs in London at venues like Hootannany and the Roundhouse. This is only their second 2020 Leeds show so far this year.

The TC & The Groove Family sound is a stew of Ghanian highlife, Nigerian afrobeat, Senegalese soukous, Brazilian samba, Caribbean soul, Afro-Latin jazz and UK electronic beats including garage, drum & bass and broken beats, all mixed together with love in Leeds and then exported to the airwaves and clubs/festivals across the UK. Tonight is a big night for them as they finally release their long awaited debut single “Let’s Start”.

Leeds College Of Music support band this week are master bass player Sam Palizan and his live band x electronic beats squad APLTN. Sam features live horns/keys/drums/vocals alongside live beats/samples. The band are all current LCoM stars : Paolo Mazzoni (drums/percussion), Grifton Forbes-Amos (trumpet), Jahleel Bannerman Balogun (tenor sax), Zsolti Farkas (vocals), Troy Kay (guitar) and Sam (bass/Ableton). Big things happening this year for APLTN. Get down early to catch them live.

Doors 8.00pm. Live music 9.00pm (APLTN) and 10.00pm (TC & The Groove Family). DJ Lubi before and between live sets and Sunday Joint DJs after the live music until late. Entry is as always free.
