Sunday Joint & DJ Lubi present the Re:Soul Jam & Kems The Thinker

Sunday 23 February 2020

RE:SOUL is the Leeds jazz/hip-hop/soul jam and showcase established in May 2015 by Leeds DJ/promoter Lubi Jovanovic (DJ Lubi). After 4.5 years, first at Hirst’s Yard then at the Wardrobe Bar, the jam is now coming to Hifi Club as part of Sunday Joint every last Sunday monthly in term time from Sunday 23rd February. The format is showcase set first from a new emerging artist/act, usually from Leeds College Of Music, followed by the jam session with guests getting up with the all-star house band featuring musicians from Têtes de Pois/Jasmine/KOG & The Zongo Brigade/Slow Loris.

Since 2015, so many of today’s current soul/jazz acts have passed through RE:SOUL at the beginning of their careers. These include Necktr, Freese Trio, Têtes de Pois, Alice Higgins, New Position, Slow Loris, Mali Hayes, Project Hilts, Guarde Dog, Wise Willis, Narcle, The Space Antics and Lizzie Berchie.

For this one, young London producer/rapper/singer Kems The Thinker (Kemar Pennant) makes his RE:SOUL and Hifi Club debut with an all-star Leeds College Of Music band featuring Joshua Gumbs (drums), Lennyn Sampedro (electric bass), Tyrel Charles Murphy (keys), Grifton Forbes-Amos (trumpet) and Jahleel Balogun (sax). If jazzy conscious hip-hop and deep neo-soul is your thing, come and check him and his band out. Ones to watch for in 2020.

Doors 8.00pm. Live music 8.45pm (Kems The Thinker) and 9.45pm (RE:SOUL jam session). DJ Lubi before and between sets and Sunday Joint DJs after the live music until late. Entry is as always FREE.
